New Years Eve

For our first New Years Eve in Pensacola, Matthew and I were determined to get out of our house and find something to do. So we ended up attending a city-wide New Years Eve event called the Pensacola Pelican Drop. The Pelican Drop is similar to Opening Night in Downtown OKC. This is only the second year for the Pelican Drop and is held in downtown Pensacola. Downtown Pensacola is a really nice area. It's similar to the Guthrie downtown, but with more shops and restaurants. It's very quaint. Anyway, we spent a few hours down there and had a fun time browsing through some of the art galleries and stopping to get hot chocolate and coffee. Oh, and if you're wondering about the name of the event, it's called the Pelican Drop because instead of dropping a "ball" like they do in NYC, they drop a Pelican. If you think that's cheesy, it's really not as bad as some. According to a MSNBC report, Georgia drops a big peach, Raleigh, NC drops a huge acorn and Eastport, Maine drops a sardine. See, a Pelican isn't that bad is it?
